Abstract

There have been many reports and articles since Sands took first partial layngectomy in 1863. The authors have clinically observed and figured out their clinical course of 6 hemilaryngectomized patients during the period between May 1978 to Oct. 1983.
The results obtained are summarized as follows;
1. The sex, age, chief complaint, staging, operation and end-results of hemilaryngectomized patients were analyzed in 6 patients of laryngeal cancer.
2. The defected region following hemilaryngectomy was reconstructed with reserved mucosal flap after arytenoidectomy and pharyngeal mucous membrane.
3. Neck dissection was done in 4 cases and postoperative irradiation was done in 3 cases of hemilaryngectomy.
4. One case was recurred about 1 year after operation, so irradiation was done, and now, he was free from any evidence of recurrence.
5. The follow-up study of all cases revealed that they were free for about 2 1/2 years to 5 1/2 years after operation.
